The Best Matthaei Botanical Gardens Wedding Photography
Tells A Unique Story
Megan and Drew's magical and emotional wedding at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens in Ann Arbor, Michigan. We took photos at the University of Michigan's Law Quad and the Cube before heading to the Matthaei Botanical Gardens for a hot summer wedding. Capturing a couple's playfulness is a huge part of what I do. Not all couples have this much fun on their wedding days or are quite as willing to play and showcase their personalities, but part of my job is to create an atmosphere where fun and playful photographs can create the best wedding photographs I can.

I've photographed a few weddings at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens before, and this wedding day stood out because of Drew and Megan's playful personality and because Drew is a Navy photographer, so I was a bit nervous since most photographers don't usually like having their photos taken. But Drew was a trooper and we had so much fun. I particularly love the series of photos with the old car. A friend had brought if and after he moved it into place, it wouldn't move. So they started hamming up this whole scenario or he tries to fix it, she ends up fixing it. Pure silly, spontaneity at its best.
Something else that was a bit different was that we had plenty of time to go and play in the Matthaei Botanical Gardens before and after the wedding. It's unusual for me to have couples that love getting their photos taken. Most of my clients pick me as their wedding photographer because they love my work AND hate getting their photos taken or feel uncomfortable and awkward. So many of my wedding couples keep the stiffer, posing part of the day to a bare minimum and usually most weddings don't have time to do much more, but we were able to do a lot with the two of them in a fairly short period of time.
