The best of my wedding photography from a budget conscience bride
looking for contemporary and Pinterest worthy wedding photographs photos in Michigan.
Danielle and Jeremy's wedding and their wedding reception in Michigan and their needs were a bit different from most of the weddings I photograph in Michigan. For one thing, I try to be very clear and up front about how I feel that showing me photos from Pinterest pretty much set me up for failure and the couple up for disappointment. Why you might ask? Most brides pull photos for their pinned wedding photo off of Pinterest from many different weddings, with different wedding budgets, different venues and different photographers. It's GREAT for planning and to get ideas for decorating and themes for a wedding. Danielle hired me because she loved the photos she saw online, loved the moments, but mainly, I think she loved that I was a great bargain for budget conscious brides! She and Jeremy's wedding was much further into Michigan than I normally travel and they were blessed with a warm, but not too hot wedding day.

I post a lot on my website and on my blogs that I am NOT a photographer who is interested in trying to mimic and recreate Pinterest wedding photos. Your wedding tells your own story and the way you've pulled it all together will be thoroughly well documented and yes, you will probably want to "Pin" a lot of your photos. I love Pinterest! Just not as a wedding photographer. I would have spent an inordinate amount of time trying to recreate a different photographer's work, many of which are heavily photoshopped or come from editorial magazines that were photographed on a set, with a nice budget, lots of staff and professional models. Many of the photographs couples give me have very little to do with what we truly have to work with. My favorite request (and this was not one from Danielle) was a photo of a couple frolicking in the ocean on a beach. Their wedding venue was in the Michigan countryside. When I asked how on earth we were supposed to created an ocean in the field, the Michigan bride responded that she didn't know and that I was the photographer and surely I was creative enough to get "that sort of picture"! Needless to say, I had told Danielle ahead of time that I was no comfortable working from a visual shot list and find that it puts blinders on me and the creative process. I like working with what we have available to create your own unique wedding photographs and your own art that reflects you and your personality.
Because Danielle had already done a lot of wedding photography research on Pinterest and didn't seem to quite understand my deep reluctance to following a Pinterest wedding shot list and because she'd already purchased some of the props, I did take a few of the suggestions that were attainable that day (the W at sunset, which just happened to be lovely that evening, is one of those shots) and then shoot what I felt truly reflected all the time, effort and fun energy that really showcased Jeremy and Danielle. I also got to have a bit of fun with the sunset silhouette photograph by creating a fun one with their tipsy guests and and their Solo cups to create our own fun version! I've edited out the rest of the Pinterest photo requested shots since I don't want to have to copy those, but I do love the rest of these images. The ironic thing to me was that clearly Danielle is a fabulously independent woman who thinks outside the box and I love that the bulk of her wedding photos show her individuality that is so fun and creative.
