At last! Sarah and Evan tied the knot at Indian Springs Metropark in White Lake, Michigan last weekend. Instead of freaking out about a less than stellar weather forecast, we decided to celebrate it! Despite all the gloom and doom looking clouds, we only got 5 minutes of the lightest sprinkle way after the wedding.

So once again, even though Indian Springs Metropark’s Environmental Discovery Center can certainly do an indoor wedding, we didn’t have to have one!

So this is a wedding I looked forward to all year. I knew Sarah and Evan were looking forward to their wedding day, I’d met the parents, I’d photographed them with their dogs and other than a spectacularly awful forecast (typical Michigan), I knew the day would be awesome.

By now hopefully you know I like to do themed blogs. I don’t do them often during wedding season, but I wanted to showcase this one because I wanted everyone in the world to see THIS bride enjoying the heck out of her day. I always tell clients that the whole point of having a wedding is to HAVE FUN! If you’re not having a fun wedding day, why do it?

Well, look at Sarah throughout her wedding day. If this chick isn’t having the time of her life then call me crazy! Sure, Evan had a ball in his super chill, super stylish way, but Sarah? This woman was freaking adorable! Honestly, I’m beginning to think the good folks and Indian Springs Metropark put something in the couple’s water during rehearsals because couples have a ball on their wedding days at this wedding venue!!

The amazing flowers created by the matron of honor’s brother made the reception at at Indian Springs Metropark in White Lake, Michigan look amazing. Here he is with his sister’s headpiece!

The wind was a big issue before this Indian Springs Metropark wedding in White Lake, Michigan playing havoc with the bride’s veil.

Normally I wouldn’t show an image like this as it’s clearly an outtake. But I loved that it illustrated so well what happens on outdoor wedding days when the wind starts to blow. Usually somebody in the wedding party will have long hair and if there’s wind, this is what happens! Never fear… with a wedding party of two, it was an easy and fun fix!

Here’s another instance of a LOT of photos from a three second moment. But this is what I do. You get all of Sarah’s myriad of emotions, all her happiness, all the “pulled six ways to Sunday” that do indeed happen during a wedding day. Walking down the aisle is a really overwhelming, bizarrely intimate yet laid bare moment. It’s got a pretty complex host of emotions running through your head in quick succession. So here it is!

In this next section, you might think I have a TON of portraits of the bride and groom. All of these were taken in about 20 minutes. We had to move fast because the weather was starting to deteriorate AND when the DJ told me couples NEVER make it into their reception for their cocktail hour (“like 3 or 4 times in 38 years” he said), I took that as a challenge. I ALWAYS try to get my clients into their party asap. Don’t they want to have fun? Don’t they want to chat with their guests? Of course they do. Everyone’s already seen them, so the whole “announce them in” thing seems a bit redundant in my opinion. So they got to come into their party early and play with their friends and family.

So this next series of photos will make all the wedding photojournalist lovers out there smile. This is what I do. I watch, I wait and I stalk. When the bride’s friend decided to motorboat the bride (who does that???), it got a perfect reaction from her girlfriends. Then the high five topped off this hilarious, silly and spontaneous moment. This is why if you want great candid moments for your wedding, hire a photojournalist!
