Say hello to Carter, a Bloomfield High School swim team senior!

Carter is like many of my high school seniors; shy, a bit reluctant and nervous about having their photo taken.

This is a totally normal reaction to meeting a total stranger and hoping they do you justice. Carter started the session with a shy smile and was but quickly opened up for collaborating to create fun, storytelling memorable photos. Getting Carter to sparkle didn't take long. Giving seniors choices over backgrounds and working with their own body language meant we collaboratively created photos that really showcased Carter's personality and goofiness.

Before long, we were laughing, egging each other on and creating great images.

Carter's a swimmer and since swimming downtown Detroit is challenging, we used their pool at the Wyndgate Country Club in Rochester Hills, Michigan. It's beautiful, private and a great place to shine.

The only hitch was when Carter realized they'd forgotten their swimsuit. Unlike plopping my seniors in lakes and rivers, we didn't want to ruin Carter's outfit, so I got out one of my swim covers and let them wear it for some fun underwater images to close out our session. So why didn't we take any of Carter's senior photos in Bloomfield? I'm not sure, but I know Carter felt comfortable, got some privacy and really blossomed during our session.
