Personal, Professional and Fabulous!

My daughter got married recently and Marci was the photographer for the engagement photos and the wedding pictures. I did not know a photographer could capture not only the beauty of the wedding, but the emotions and joy we all experienced. The photos are spectacular in every way. And Marci was so easy and fun to work with. I can't recommend her highly enough!!

Detroit Wedding Photographer who loves working with and celebrating LGBTQ+ couples in Michigan. Enthusiastic advocate for gay weddings.

My family is chock full of loving, wonderful folks who identify as queer. I am a nurturing ally who is there to advocate for all my clients. One of the best things about photographing LGBTQ+ weddings is that all the people (read family) who can't get on your love train either aren't invited or don't show up. So the friends and family that do come to your wedding are THRILLED to be there. And I am too.

Sure, my LGBTQ+ clients get their own gallery (whoop, whoop), but also, no one puts Baby in the corner so you'll find my gay clients all over my site

One of the best moments of my life and career was attending a long planned wedding that happened on Friday, June 26th, 2015. Imagine all our shock when the brides were able to go to the courthouse and come to their ceremony with legal paperwork in hand. We were all so overcome by the rightness, the serendipity, the historic nature of the day. Not a dry eye in the room. Best day ever!

So what is different about photographing LGBTQ+ weddings? Um, nothing! I work with couple's body language so that you look like you and the two of you fit together and look how you should. I celebrate what you bring to the day and help if you need some suggestions. The only part that seems to surprise people about gay wedding photography is that it's no different from any other kind of wedding photography except the couple usually identifies as queer.

I will say that it's not uncommon for my LGBTQ couples to be a bit more hesitant or shy with PDA. I want you to be comfortable and meet you at that sweet spot between what you're comfortable with and capturing your playfulness and passion for each other. As with all couples, what starts off feeling hella awkward quickly becomes fun, entertaining and you can relax into just being with each other in the moment. A bit of privacy always helps too. I try to do most of my couples portraits away from the hoots and hollers from your well intentioned wedding party.

One of my favorite things to do with couples is to pull them aside once you're ready for a small break shortly before I leave. You're relaxed, relieved and ready to check in with each other. Almost all the "epic portraits" you see on my site are done during this time. The secret sauce? 10 freaking minutes to concentrate and check in with each other once all the pressure is gone. It's magical.

It was so much fun creating the gay wedding photo gallery, but check out the rest of my work and see how many of my other LGBTQ couples you can spot.

If you are considering booking Marci as your wedding photographer, do it!! She is professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and brings so much more than just her photography skills to her assignments. I am not always comfortable in front of a camera, but Marci really helps make the photography process relaxed and helped calm some nerves before the ceremony. Even months after my wedding, I still obsess over all my wedding photos for hours because they turned out so beautifully. I would 110% recommend Marci Curtis to anyone for any occasion!
